Honey Badgers: Fearless Creatures of the Wild

 

One creature of the wild which has amazed many people is the honey badger. Honey badgers are small and they have a lot of fur on their bodies. They are usually black and white. These animals are so strong and resilient that they have amazed a lot of people who have studied about them. Below are some wonderful and interesting facts about these creatures.

 

Honey badgers eat many different things. They eat small animals or insects, such as larvae and beetles. They prey on frogs, scorpions, lizards and small birds. An amazing thing is that they also add bigger animals to their diet. They prey on and eat small pythons and small crocodiles as well as black mambas and other poisonous snakes. Preying on big animals like antelope and jackals is not above what they can do. They even attack wild cats at times. Because they can fight so well and are tireless in their effort, they are well able to provide for themselves from a wide variety of prey. They are certainly ferocious and fearless, regardless of their size. 

 

Honey badgers have an amazing sense of smell. This helps them to locate their prey even from a great distance. Honey badgers usually hunt by digging tunnels. Digging about 50 holes with a total of more than 40 kilometers in between is something that they can accomplish in just 24 hours. They are also amazing climbers of trees. They are flexible and resilient in jumping from one branch to the other. Because of this, they usually prey on bird's nests and eat their eggs. They are truly astounding creatures in their many skills and abilities.

 

Honey badgers did not inherit their name because of a love for honey. Generally, they eat meat, adding a few fruits here and there. However, the honey Badger do raid bee hives. They do this not for the honey, but for a certain nutritious bee species. They go great lengths just to find this bee species. Because of this, great damage can be caused to apiaries. Honey badgers have been also known to dig in the ground for the larvae of that bee species.
